Introduction

INDITEX has developed its sustainable manufacturing code in order to integrate sustainability more deeply into its business model and to achieve long lasting impacts across our entire value chain. However, achieving sustainability in textiles and leather manufacturing requires a holistic approach covering not just the final article but also the production process and facilities involved.

Thus, the present sustainable manufacturing code introduces a modular analysis of all key issues related to facilities and the manufacturing processes involved including but not limited to:

•    Chemical products management.
•    Environmental management (i.e. microfibres, water discharges, solid wastes, air emissions).
•    Potential savings related to energy, water and other resources management.

According to this, INDITEX direct suppliers and the mills into the scope of the present manufacturing code will find in this document:

•    Textile and leather good manufacturing practices in order to deliver safe and quality products.
•    Environmental good manufacturing practices in order to reduce the environmental impact of their activities.

In case you need further information related to INDITEX sustainable manufacturing code, please do not hesitate to contact INDITEX through the Sustainability department. To this end, send an e-mail to sustainablemanufacturing@inditex.com including in the subject the name of the INDITEX brand you are currently working for and/or you have received a purchase order from.

Objective

The main objective of this manufacturing code is to improve technological skills of facilities into the supply chain of INDITEX direct suppliers by increasing their operational efficiency what could lead to reductions up to 50 % of the manufacturing costs derived from water, energy and chemicals consumption. Additionally, facilities may benefit from costs reductions related to the improvement of water discharges quality, air emissions and resources footprint.

Once this objective is achieved, INDITEX direct suppliers and their whole supply chain will benefit from a reduction in manufacturing times and costs at the same time they work together for a better and more sustainable world.

Scope

The present code is focused not only on INDITEX direct suppliers but also on their supply chain. Thus, sub-suppliers, wet processing mills (dyeing, polyurethane coating mills, laundries and tanneries) as well as shoe assembling facilities are also included.
